STUDIO THEATRE OPENS SEASON WITH “VOLLEYGIRLS” NOV 1
SHS Musical Theatre students are putting the final touches on their first production of the year, “Volleygirls”.
Rod Ackerman’s comedy explores the ups and downs of the fictional Saint Agnes girls’ volleyball team, who are under pressure to defeat their biggest rival and save their coach’s job. But with a limited number of players, a string of losses, an awkward confrontation with an angry parent, and two of the girls about to come to blows over a boy, things look grim.
As their coach confronts his own nagging case of “loseritis,” the girls learn to work together, hatching a plan to turn their season around and learning to conquer any challenge thrown their way, on or off the court.
Cameron Davidson is convincing as the troubled coach under the thumb of AD Hannah Nicholson. The players include Megan Gramlin, Courtney Rogers, Heather Rightsell, Mackenzie Wilhoite, Sabrina Peace, Brittany Durbin, and Sheylyn Britney. Senior Tristan Allen turns in a fun performance as a love-struck junior broadcasting student, and Riley Zelivetz makes his stage debut as the gnarly Russian ref.
Junior Abby Corbin serves as assistant director, handles stage and technical matters, and works with the cast on expressive aspects. Other performers and support personnel include Kennan Hemingway, Cheyanne Madden, Tiana Stone, Kaylee Cissell, and Megan Miller.
Lively and heartfelt, Volleygirls captures the spirit and passion of everything you love about team sports. One night only, 8:00 pm, Saturday, November 1. Admission at the door: $5 adults, $3 students.
