2017 Solo-Ensemble Festival Results

Ten Salem Choir students earned performance slots at the ISSMA State Solo-Ensemble Auditions on Saturday, February 18 by achieving Gold Medal rankings at the ISSMA
District Festival.

They were among 44 Vocal Music soloists from Salem High School and Salem Middle School participating at the District auditions at Floyd Central High School January 28.

SHS students advancing to the State event include Elizabeth Batchelor, Jacki Azcuy, Laura Andis, Melea Hardin, Rachel Casey, Sabrina Tuell, Tiffany Cooke, Andrew Hoskins, Cody Blackwell, and Donovan Gray.

Other SHS students performing in Group I, the most demanding level, included Brianna Reynolds, Cora Saunders, Kelly Mount, Isabelle Reynolds, Sami Terrell, Jaden Knuckles, and Kaden Hebard, along with previous State qualifiers Courtney Rogers and Whitney Journell. All earned Silver medals.

Nathan Smith and Sydney Rogers earned Gold medals in Group II. Lauren Stevenson and Justice Brown earned Silver medals, and Ashtan Gilstrap was awarded a Bronze, also in Group II.

Nineteen Salem Middle School students performed at the Festival, with fifteen of these earning Gold medals. Gold medalists in Group II included Autumn Harley, Breawna Rice, Brooklyn Thompson, Kiley Gilbert, and Kimberly Herr. Destiny Davis and Kennedy Abner earned Silver medals in Group III.

Gold medalists in Group IV included Elizabeth Tussey, Ja’lyn Randall, Jennetta Kaiser, Kagan Jenkins, Natalie Blevins, Tirzah Hacker, and Trinity Gooch. Haylie Walker, Maleah Blevins, and pianist Jacob Rose all were awarded Gold medals in Group V, with Madi Irwin and Jocelyn Partin earning Silver awards.

The performances were the culmination of four weeks of individual instruction in weekly sessions conducted by accompanists/ vocal coaches Allison Fory Hall, Jennifer Johanningsmeier, and Bill Spencer-Pierce. The activity is supported by grants from the Salem Choir Parents Organization and the Salem Choirs.
